Saw this on the news, thought at first it was the BBC going for some sensationalist headline & AWT had just forgotten to pay for something or some mix up with his bags etc.
Seems he's got some mental health issues going on as he's been doing it a while.

It was chaos at Tesco's in Henley yesterday film crews every where!
Supposedly he's done it 4 or 5 times and they let him off. He was buying stuff at the Deli counter then not scanning it at the checkout.

Why is he pretending he did it because he was abused as a child? Is it because that's more socially acceptable, lying, than saying 'yup, i've been taking the piss a bit because I seemed to be getting away with it, but now I've been caught so I'll pack it in, bit embarrassing but there it is'?
I'd have had a lot more respect for him if he'd have just said that, but no..
